But nobody can easily see everyone at once — so time gets spent on the radio just confirming who’s where, and hazard updates get relayed verbally or shared as photos that are out of date the moment they’re sent.
TAK.NZ (Team Awareness Kit for New Zealand) fixes that by putting every responder on one shared, live map — regardless of agency, regardless of radio network.
Two Ways to Be Part of It
TAK.NZ works the way a real incident works: some agencies are there for the response itself, others step in as things escalate.
Frontline responders — Fire and Emergency, Police, ambulance, search and rescue, and other emergency services get full access to see and coordinate with each other during day-to-day incidents.
Wider support — as an incident grows into a larger, declared emergency, other organisations — like Civil Defence, welfare agencies, and infrastructure operators — join the same shared picture to help coordinate the broader response.
